Bay Village -
On January 20, 2019 at around 1:54am, the Bay Village Service Department was attempting to clear snow from Woodland Ave when they noticed a vehicle abandoned in the middle of the street. Bay Police arrived and were unable to make contact with the vehicle owner. The vehicle was towed and ticketed for blocking the roadway. The owner picked up the car the next day and explained that he could not get into his driveway because of the snow.
On January 20, 2019 at 9:11pm, Bay Village Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Sandalwood Drive. During the course of the interaction, a K-9 unit was called to the scene. The K-9 alerted to the vehicle, indicating drugs inside. The occupants, two males and one female, all Bay Village residents, were separated and placed into the rear of the cruisers on scene while the search was being conducted. Officers did not find drugs in the vehicle and the occupants were to be released. However, when one of the officers let the individual out of his cruiser backseat, he noticed that the male had urinated all over the inside of the police vehicle. The disorderly male who urinated in the back of the police vehicle was made to clean up his mess and he is facing charges.
On January 23, 2019 at 3:04am, a Bay Village Officer attempted to stop a 2010 Ford Van on Lake Road for an equipment violation. The vehicle failed to stop for officers and fled westbound on Lake Road reaching speeds of 80mph. Within a short amount of time, the officer terminated the pursuit. Upon checking the area however, they found the vehicle had crashed into a tree on a property near Huntington Woods and Lake Road. A passing Border Patrol Agent happened to be in the area and saw individuals get out of the vehicle, running eastbound and westbound. Westlake Police was called for mutual aid.
Officers were able to follow footprints in the snow, when a suspect male was seen fleeing the area on a bicycle. The male was later captured in the backyard shed of a residence in the 600 block of Brooke Lane. The 18 Year old male suspect had an outstanding warrant out of Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court. A search of the shed also yielded a 9mm handgun. The vehicle that the suspects abandoned was later determined to be a stolen Ford van out of Cleveland. The other suspects have not been apprehended to this point. An investigation is being conducted by the Bay Village Detective Bureau.
On January 26, 2019 at 1:02am, Bay Village Police stopped a vehicle on Lake Road at Saddler. The operator, a 37 year old Bay Village male, appeared to be under the influence and failed a field sobriety test. Once on station, the male submitted to an Intoxilyzer test which showed a .177 Blood Alcohol Content. He is facing charges in Rocky River Municipal Court for numerous charges.
On January 27, 2019 at 1:50am, Bay Village Police stopped a vehicle on Wolf Road on Parkside Drive for a moving violation. The operator, a 34 year old Bay Village male, failed field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest. On station, the male refused to submit to an Intoxilyzer test. The male is charged with OVI, No operator’s license, Stop Sign Violation and Weaving in Rocky River Municipal Court.
