Carlos Santana to represent Cleveland Indians in All-Star Home Run Derby

CLEVELAND — Cleveland Indians first baseman Carlos Santana is having a heck of a week.

Just days after being elected by the fans as a starter for the American League in the 2019 MLB All-Star Game, Major League Baseball officials announced Sunday that Santana was selected to represent the hometown team in the Home Run Derby at Progressive Field on Monday, July 8.

Santana, who will make his first-ever appearance in the MLB All-Star Game, will be the Indians’ sixth representative in the 30-plus year history of the Home Run Derby and the franchise’s first participant since multi-time All-Star center fielder Grady Sizemore competed for the American League in the 2008 Derby at Yankee Stadium in New York City.

Santana is looking to become the first Indians player ever to win the Home Run Derby.
