Barberton Man Sentenced to Maximum 5 Years in Prison for Sexual Assault

Akron - – Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh announced today that Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Joy Malek Oldfield sentenced Cecil Carnegie, 46, of Herms Court in Barberton, to the maximum five years in prison for sexually assaulting a stranger.

Judge Oldfield also determined Carnegie to be a Tier III sex offender. Once Carnegie is released from prison, he will have to register with the local sheriff every 90 days for the rest of his life.

On September 5th, 2019, a Summit County jury found Carnegie guilty of the following charge:

  • Sexual Battery – a felony of the 3rd degree

In May of 2018, Carnegie met the victim at a bus stop, where the woman appeared to be severely intoxicated. Carnegie later took the woman to a park where the two laid down on a blanket. Carnegie then sexually assaulted the woman as she went in and out of consciousness.
