Domestic Violence Bill Named For Shaker Heights Teacher Goes To House Floor

(Columbus) - The Ohio House is expected to vote Wednesday on a bill named for a Shaker Heights teacher, killed by her ex-husband.

The bill is called Aisha's Law, and it creates more ways for police and prosecutors to bring charges of domestic violence. It's named for Aisha Fraser, the Shaker Heights teacher whose ex-husband, former judge Lance Mason, stabbed her to death, in front of their children. This happened after Mason had served time in prison for attacking Fraser.

Mason, who is also a former state lawmaker, is serving a sentence of 35 years to life. Under the bill, he could have been considered for a new crime, domestic violence aggravated murder.
