Professional skateboarder Tony Hawk is paying tribute to Kurt Cobain while promoting mental health and suicide prevention.

Hawk tweeted Monday he is selling limited edition "Kurt Cobain/Jeff Phillips Charity Skateboard" decks and prints, with half the proceeds going to The Jed Foundation, a non-profit that aims to prevent suicides by teens and young people.

Hawk purchased the original Jeff Phillips-model skateboard at auction that Cobain originally owned and hand-painted a version of cover art from an Iron Maiden album.

Phillips was a professional skateboarder who committed suicide at age 30 on Christmas Day 1993, a little more than three months before Cobain took his own life at the age of 27.

Hawk tweeted his announcement on what would have been Cobain's 56th birthday.
