Recent rain could lead to mosquito breeding.
Joe Lynch talks to WTAM's Colleen O'Neill
(Cleveland)- The recent damp weather is perfect for mosquitos to breed so Cuyahoga County Health officials are urging everyone to get rid of standing water to eliminate breeding sites.
That includes getting rid of containers and children's toys that collect water, flushing out bird baths once a week, and making sure your gutters are working properly.
Program Director Joe Lynch says, over the next couple of days they expect mosquitos to breed, and in a week or two we'll probably see an increase in adult biting mosquitos.
So far, northeast Ohioans have been lucky when it comes to the West Nile Virus. 63,000 mosquitos have been tested in Ohio and none of them have tested positive for West Nile Virus. Lynch says, that doesn't mean there's no West Nile its just not on the level they can detect.
You're encouraged to wear bug spray when you are spending time outdoors, especially older people with immunity problems who are most at risk. Some symptoms include headache, achiness, and mental confusion. If you experience these symptoms for several days contact your doctor.
