Five deaths this weekend on Ohio roadways
Sgt. Karla Taulbee talks to WTAM's Colleen O'Neill
(Columbus)- This past Fourth of July was the safest for Ohio drivers in the past eleven years.
Sgt. Karla Taulbee of the Ohio State Highway Patrol says, five people died this weekend, two of which were from ATV crashes and another from a motorcycle accident. All three of those drivers were not wearing helmets.
However, this is a decline from last year, when 15 deaths on Ohio roadways occurred. Moreover, this is the least amount of fatalities during the Fourth of July weekend since 1998.
Taulbee says, public awareness and visibility of law enforcement are some of the reasons for this decline. They'll continue to let people know that it's always a good idea to slow down, don't drink and drive, and wear your seat belt.
