(Lorain) - Thousands of people attended the Sunday evening memorial service for Marine Lance Corporal David Hall, which was held in Lakeview Park.
It was a beautiful, but somber ceremony with the sun setting over Lake Erie, and his flag draped coffin just below the podium. A military color guard stood watch, with a Coast Guard vessel anchored off the shore.
There was an aerial fly by, a bagpiper's tribute, a biker's procession, and a video of David's life displayed on two large electronic video screens.
Lora HallAmong those speaking the memorial service were Hall's sister Lora Hall, uncle Bud Collier, and Congresswoman Betty Sutton.
The 31 year old Marine’s life was taken in Helmand Province, Afghanistan by an improvised explosive device.

Visitation was held on Friday. Hundreds attended, including U.S. Senator George Voinovich. The family had planned to have the Lakeview Park memorial service on Saturday but made changes to accommodate the City of Lorain.
In honor of Hall, Gov. Ted Strickland ordered flags flown at half-staff on public buildings and grounds throughout Lorain County until sunrise Monday.
