Rail problem and human error blamed.

(Painesville)
- The National Transportation Safety Board has ruled on the cause of that massive train derailment in Painesville in October 2007 that forced the evacuations of 1,400 people and cost nearly 8.5 million dollars in environmental clean-up.

A raised rail joint caused the accident.  It was higher than the other joints forcing the train to jump the tracks.  An inspector with C-S-X is also partially to blame since he knew of the problem for ten months and did nothing to fix it.

Thirty one rail cars jump the tracks.  Some of them carried ethynol and liquefied petroleum gas.  As a result, a major evacuation took place while Lake County public safety personnel worked to to get things in order.

Republican Lake County Congressman Steve LaTourrette says he and administrators with C-S-X will soon meet to discuss ways to keep this from happening again.
