Charges filed in murder of mail carrier Daniel Kondas
Police have a teenager in custody.

- Police have arrested 19 year old Randie Winston for the murder of mail carrier Daniel Kondas. Police Lt. Timothy Love says Winston was nabbed at a home on Reddington Avenue, just one street from the crime scene.

Love isn't revealing what led officers to the house, but says the occupants were detained, and the home was searched. Winston was taken into custody without incident.

Love says Winston did talk about the crime when questioned, and gave them a statement. He's now charged with aggravated murder.

Police report that Winston had only lived in the home for 6 months, and appears to have relocated from Cleveland.

Love reports that the motive appears to be robbery, with a gun going off after a struggle.

Love says there are no witnesses to the actual crime but residents did give them valuable information, and claims crucial evidence has been recovered.

The 53-year-old Kondas died just before 11 p.m. on Thursday. An autopsy is to be conducted by Saturday.

Condas had just begun his route in Maple Heights Thursday morning when the shooting took place. This was on Corridon Avenue near Dunham Road.

Postal Spokesman Victor Dubina says Kondas was a 23-year postal veteran and had worked out of Maple Heights since 2000. 

Residents say Kondas was a very popular letter carrier in the neighborhood. Many were shocked to learn he had been attacked. the shooting occured as a city wide yard sale was just getting underway.
